MARITIME
Electric boating is quiet, peaceful and environmentally friendly. This will be a motivation to choose electric boating on the one hand, and on the other hand regulations within a particular sailing area may play a role in this choice.
Various solutions exist as electric drives within marine applications. The most important consideration here is the choice of an indoor or outdoor motor solution. Een binnenboordaandrijving kan functioneren als hoofdaandrijving of als hybride-aandrijving.
For both inboard solutions and POD drives, EMT has a very wide range of products.

Outboard POD drives
An outboard solution as a POD drive can currently be offered in power ratings from 0.7kW to 125kW at a speed of 1500 rpm. Other powers and or speeds are of course possible on request. These electric motors have been in production for various customers for several years, which has enabled EMT to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience in the further development and improvement of these systems. With outboard motors the slim shape of the electric motor is often a plus. For this reason, EMT usually uses a permanent magnet motor principle in this application. But also traditional DC motors that are easily adjustable are part of the range.
Should you have specific requirements regarding your execution or performance for small, medium or larger series, we will evaluate the possibilities with you to come up with a suitable solution.
Inboard motors
An inboard engine is usually set up in the boat’s engine room and also serves as the main drive or hybrid drive. Depending on the space available in the engine room and conditions, the type of electric motor and cooling type of the motor will be selected. Consider natural cooling, ventilation or as a water-cooled (jacket) version of the electric motor. The electric motor can be mounted vertically in an L-drive drive that drives the propeller via a right-angle transmission. When the motor is horizontally in line with the drive shaft and propeller we call it a direct-drive drive.
Inboard engines can consist of several engine types. In addition to permanent magnet solutions, asynchronous motors can also be used for both lower voltages (24-120VDC) to higher voltages (144-650VDC).
Inboard motors from EMT are available within power ratings from 4kW to 250kW. Different voltages and powers can also be offered.
